When you are a child: 着多件衫呀。 Wear more clothes. 知道。 Alright. When you are a teen: 唔好打咁多機啦，嘥晒啲時間。 Don’t spend so much time gaming; it’s a waste of time. 得喇。 Fine. When you are in your 20s: 幾大呀你？ How old are you? 仲係咁冇手尾嘅。 Never put things back where they belong! 有你吖嘛. Because I have you. When you are in your 30s: 都話咗你㗎啦。 I’ve told you so. 話咗你㗎啦。 I’ve told you so. 知喇， Got it, 下次記得㗎喇。 I'll make sure to remember next time. When you are in your 40s: 阿媽， Mum, 乖啦！ Be Good! 聽話啦。 Listen up. There is a Chinese say, “養兒一百歲，長憂九十九。” which can be translated as “parents will always worry about their children (like having them for 100 years, you worry about them for 99 years). I used to not understand as a kid. But since I've become a mum myself, I empathise with my parents more, and I (try to) respond more gently. And yes, cherishing those moments of care and love from them is so important while we still can. Cantonese Listening: Why Does Easter Vary Each Year?
Transcripts: When you like someone: 唔緊要， Doesn’t matter, 我最鍾意呢就係 I really enjoy 講埋啲無聊嘢㗎嘞。 talking about all sorts of random things. 我唔覺得悶呀⋯⋯ I don’t feel bored at all… When you don’t like someone: 勁無聊囉⋯⋯ It’s so boring… 成日都講埋晒啲無聊嘢。 Always talking about pointless stuff. 都唔知佢想講乜。 Have no clue what (s)he is trying to express. 幾時先講完㗎？ When will it finish? “無聊” (mou4 liu4) means more than “boring”. It can also be used as a neutral word in some contexts. Sometimes, when we have a casual chat about random topics with someone, we can say we’re talking about “無聊嘢” (mou4 liu4 je5). However, in different contexts, “無聊嘢” can refer to pointless stuff.
